Social Enterprise Possip Pivots to Meet Families’ COVID-19 Needs

Schools and districts are using Possip, a virtual platform designed to provide schools with real-time feedback from parents, to identify needs for families as they adjust to the COVID-19 outbreak.

For example, as schools transition to online learning, they have used Possip to find out what technology resources families have or need. COO Christine Fisher shared a critical insight they received: “One of our schools learned that 70% of their families either lacked internet or a device for their child to use.” Possip enables these schools to engage with families and determine what extra support their child might need while learning from home.

Saundra Oprea, PRM Resource Coordinator, expressed her appreciation for Possip: “I know as the school moves forward with virtual lessons, homework packets, etc., that Possip can play an important role in keeping our families engaged and responding to the needs they express. Personally I can’t imagine a better way to continue to hear from as many families as possible during these uncertain weeks.”

Schools also serve as more than just a learning environment. For many families, they represent an opportunity for children to consistently receive food through free & reduced meals. Possip has played a critical role in enabling schools to let parents and families know when food bags are available, and enabling parents to notify their schools if they are planning to come for food bags.

Possip is also uniquely allowing teachers to use their tool to systematically and routinely hear from parents and families, should they desire. Cortnee Smith, College Hill Fundamental Academy Resource Coordinator, highlighted the value of Possip in maintaining communication with families: “Our correspondence with our families are now very limited due to staff not being allowed in the buildings along with the students, so during this time Possip is a huge asset.”

Above all, Possip gives parents and families a safe and easy place to ask questions. Their platform has been instrumental in facilitating communication and support between families and schools in a time of unprecedented, short-notice change. Possip strengthens schools through the power of community, and their impact has never been clearer.
